The purpose of this lab was to isolate our very own DNA from your cheeks cells. Our goal was to also find out what genotype we each where to learn more from our ancestors and where we came from.. We also learned how important it is to follow the lab procedure.
Please refer to the link above for content of the materials list and lab procedure.
Results/Analysis
In this lab we came up significant results. As you can see below I provided what the results were suppose to appear as. On the picture on the left, heterozygous would appear with two lines, one at the top and one at the bottom, homozygous positive would result in one line at the top, and homozygous negative would appear with one line towards the bottom. The picture on the right indicates that I am homozygous negative because of the line at the bottom.
RESULTS
Conclusion
Discovering what genotype you have, is an interesting process. This was our first time working with micro pipets which made it a little nerve-racking but also exciting at the same time. We first isolated our DNA from our cheek cells by gargling salt water for about a minute. We then used PCR to to determine the kind of genotype we were. My group, surprisingly didn't not make any mistakes and we also all we the same genotype, homozygous negative! I really enjoyed working with micro pipets and look forward to more labs with this tool.
